Individual Therapy
How does it help?
The main goal of individual therapy is to dismantle obstacles that block us from happiness. It can inspire change, improve quality of life, and address mental health issues. These are some of the modalities that I use for treatment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - This popular approach helps you identify and challenge negative or distorted thoughts that could be contributing to the problem. Practicing new strategies to manage thoughts, feelings, and behavior can greatly help with depression, anxiety, phobias, and self-esteem issues.
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) This therapy helps improve relationships with others and/or social functioning. Learning communication skills, assertiveness, boundary setting, and improving social support can be effective in dealing with unresolved grief, life transitions such as divorce or retirement, disputes in personal life or work, and your involvement in unfulfilling relationships.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Unearthing buried thoughts and feelings in the unconscious mind allows us to examine them and see the patterns of how these repressed emotions affect thinking, behavior, and relationships. Examining attachment styles also enables a better understanding of how we currently interact in the world. We can then discuss skills to improve relationships, emotions, and behaviors.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
We all have several parts living within us that fulfill both healthy and unhealthy roles. Some of these parts are protectors when activated by triggers but can cause shame or self-loathing. By understanding the protectors, we can be more compassionate to our Inner Child and begin to be free from the emotional burden of past pain.
